The Flame Grill Story
In 2021 we teamed up with Sonja's Flavour Company and introduced flame grilled chicken to our menu. We were out of our depth and needed some expertise to develop the basting sauces and Sonja De Beer, who incidently grew up on a farm in the Karoo came to our rescue. The specs were to develop basting sauces for flame grilled chicken 1) with excellent vibrant flavours, 2) no colourants, preservatives or flavour enhancers, 3) using as many fresh ingredients as possible, 4) and not copying other restaurants. This led to the development of 4 sauces with outstanding taste.
Honey Mustard
We start by making the mustard from scratch and then blending with the best tasting raw honey from Fishriver near Cradock. Tangy, sweet, mustardy with delicious Acacia and wild flower honey. This is set to become a big one.
Smokey Tomato
We smoke the tomatoes to get that intense smoke flavour before we blend and add some beautiful spices. You will definately taste the tomatoes and smoked paprika when trying this out
Peri-peri
The iconic flavour for chicken has been given a new life at Roostas. We didn't want a "burn your tongue off" experience, but were looking more for a "intense flavour with bite"
Creamy Herb
Lots of garlic and herbs in there with a smooth buttermilk creaminess.
